Homework/Reports Assignments for CS249 May Term 2001


Report One - [due 4/25/01] Groups were assigned a specific static interconnection network to analyze. i) total links, ii) fanout, iii) diameter, iv) average distance, and v) bisection bandwidth along with a general description and discussion of pros and cons of the topology. Rings were done in class as an example and groups were assigned the torus, hypercube and binary tree.

Report Two - Groups were assigned particular hardware examples to summarize for the class, MASPAR, T3E, nCUBE, BBN, Enterprise 1000, and CM2 (&5). They were to give a brief system overview of their machine. A one or two page report with source(s) were expected

Timing Exercise Report - [due 5/9/01 p.m.] Students will time communications in the lab and use linear regression to fit the Time = T_startup + N*T_comm equation. A short report with graphs and conclusions is expected.

Homework Set One - [due 5/11/01 a.m.] The following problems from Tanenbaum and Pacheco:

Pac - 2.4, 3.2(comment on lab 1), 5.1, 2, 5, 11.prog1 (previous report)

Tan Chp 8 - 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 17, 20, 22.

 

Additional Problem - problem 2 from test three is to be redone as homework using the start in class.

Homework Set Two - TBA
