Unit Zero Paper - Campus Engagement Assignment
This paper will be our "campus engagement" exercise. Students will select a convocation, artist series, art exhibition, or other (pre-approved) invited, off-campus presentation for the Fall term. They will research the presenter and the topic. They will report on what they find out concerning each by responding to a series of questions. They will also provide evidence of the "information search" associated with the report.
Step One - Select a Fall term Convocation, Artist Series, Wartburg Symphony, Art Gallery Presentation or other approved, invited off-campus presentation and identify both the speaker/performer/artist and the topic/subject. This is to be done with-in the first 6 class periods.

Step Two - Perform an information search on the speaker/performer guided by the questions below and keep a record of the search as it progresses using either a search log, or an annotated bibliography. (see below).
Step Three - Respond to the questions below, in essay form not in Q & A form. The questions may have to be adapted depending on the event selected.
Step Four - Prepare a record of the information search. This must include a bibliography of the most useful sources (8ish, hopefully not all web-based) and should either also include a Research Log or the bibliography should be annotated.
A Research Log is a 4-column log with columns for source, search terms used, summary of result and usefulness of result.
An Annotated Bibliography includes a short paragraph with each bibliographic entry giving a very brief summary of the content of the source as well as a judgment of its usefulness/ appropriateness.
Step Five - Write a brief evaluation of the event with respect to your expectations based on your research.
Due Date - For the Reed Convo the due date is October 26. For other events it is the first class period which occurs at least 7 days after the event (opening day for gallery). (e.g. Tuesday convo means the following Wednesday)
